Cougars nip Bearkatz on links

A 1-over-par 37 by Cougar Justin Burns helped Izard County Consolidated to a one-stroke win over the Melbourne Bearkatz in a golf match at Cooper's Hawk Golf Club Sept. 13.

The Cougars carded a 129, while Melbourne posted a 130. Salem finished third with a team score of 141, and Mount Pleasant rounded out the field with a 171.

In addition to Burns' 37, Jesse Dockins shot a 44 for ICC, Jeremy Burns added a 48 and Joey Stefka posted a 60.

Luke Haney paced Melbourne with a 40, while Cody Cooper added a 44 and Chase Moser a 46. Drew Porter carded a 49 and Adam Jones a 61 for the Bearkatz.

Salem was paced by Nathan Criss' 44, and Johnny Clark added a 48. Josh Sisler and Joe Brown finished with a 48 apiece for the Greyhounds.

Cory Simpson's 57 led Mount Pleasant, while Kenton Johnson carded a 57 and Dan Adams a 63.

On the girls' side of things, Sarah Moser's 11-over 47 helped the Lady Bearkatz to a win with a team score of 150.

The Lady Hounds of Salem finished second with a 165, while ICC came in third with a 176.

Abby Cooper carded a 50, while Cassie Cooper shot a 53 for Melbourne. Erica Harguess posted a 54, and Oliva Morris a 57 for the Lady Bearkatz.

Kayla Dennis and Jenny Neal each shot a 54 for Salem, while Tori Watkins carded a 57.

Brittany Richardson paced ICC with a 53, while Lauren Cunningham added a 59 and Chelsie Yancey a 64.
