Joe A. Powell, son of the late Ocal Powell and Dellie Rutledge Powell, was born Dec. 17, 1932 in Thayer, Mo., and died Dec. 4, 2003, in Thayer, Mo., at the age of 70 years.
He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in the Korean Conflict. He was an electrical construction worker. He was a Christian and was of the Protestant faith.
Survivors include one daughter, Joann Barfield and husband, Sammy, of Stuttgart, Ark.; one son, Joseph Powell and wife, Ona, of Humphrey, Ark.; one step-son, Wayne Lee Ament of Saint Louis, Mo.; three grandchildren -- Cody, Becky and Jacob; one step-daughter, Hannah; three sisters -- Goldie Davenport and husband, George of Thayer, Grace Palmer of Thayer and Viola Herndon and husband Jesse of Houston, Mo.; two brothers -- Clarence Powell and wife, Barbara, of Thayer, and Gilbert Powell and wife, Shirley, of Thayer; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Claude Powell, and one brother-in-law, Harold Palmer.
Services were Dec. 7 at Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer with the Rev. Don Tabor officiating. Burial was in Thayer Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of Carter Funeral Home of Thayer.
Pallbearers were his nephews.
