Cell phone drive under way in Mammoth Spring

Thursday, August 5, 2004

An emergency cell phone drive is in progress in Mammoth Spring.

The Save A Life Give A Phone Program collects used donated cell phones and refurbishes them in order to provide emergency 9-1-1 access for domestic violence victims and the YWCA domestic violence shelters nationwide. Currently 5,000 cell phones are urgently needed nationwide.

Domestic violence is the single largest cause of injury to women in the United States. According to the National Institute of Justice, approximately 1.5 million women are physically abused annually in the United States. The Save A Life Give A Phone program gets emergency 9-1-1 access cell phones in the hands of those who need them.

Residents of the community are asked to take used cell phones to the Save A Life Give A Phone official drop-off point in Mammoth Spring at Radio Shack, located at 277 Main Street.
