Thompson to leave Bend's MRID

Thursday, February 19, 2004

Horseshoe Bend MRID Commissioner Jim Thompson will resign effective April 1.

Thompson said, "There are a myriad of problems facing the MRID, and there were disagreements between the commissioners and the city as to how some of these problems should be addressed." Thompson also said that the long hours associated with the job and ill health were factors in his decision to step down as a commissioner. He said he is looking forward to "doing more from the outside to help the MRID" once his resignation is complete.

In other MRID news, the committee released the numbers from the city's pro shop. For the month of January the numbers are as follows: members -- 714; green fees paid -- 43; twi-light golf -- 19; winter rates -- 11; card specials -- 0; misc. (lung card, golf card and Crown Point) -- 0; number of carts rented -- 28.

There was a lengthy discussion regarding fees and there were several suggestions. All of the suggestions will be considered and discussed before raising any of the fees. The proposed fee schedule is as follows: golf cart fee will increase $5 per year; golf cart sheds fee will increase by $10 per year; adult pool fee -- $30 per year; public pool -- $2 per day per person/no season passes; public pool rental -- $7 per event with life guards; clubhouse rental -- $5 per day residential groups (20 people and under), $25 per event for large residential groups and $50 per event for large groups and non-residential groups; boats on any of the four lakes controlled by the MRID will pay a yearly fee of $30 or a $2 per day launch fee; tennis courts will cost $5 per session; exclusive use of parks will be $15 per half day or $30 for a full day; Pioneer Lake beach -- $30 per year fee or $5 per week passes purchased at the MRID office; mini golf -- $2 per round per person; increase building permits to $45.
