Mark F. Ball, 75, of Williford, Ark., died Feb. 13, 2004, at Eastern Ozarks Regional Health System in Cherokee Village.
Born April 6, 1928, in Hickory Ridge, Ark., he was the son of Robert and Mary Wisemore Ball.
He enlisted in the Navy in 1944 at the age of 15. He fought in the South Pacific, receiving a number of medals, including the Liberation of the Philippines. He moved to Detroit, in 1953, where he served as a police office for seven years. It was in Detroit that he met his wife of 48 years, Jackie. They moved to Kenosha, Wis. in 1959, where he worked as a mechanic at the Ford Garage and was a business agent for UAW Local 173. He later opened his own business where he worked until his retirement in 1990. Upon retirement, the Balls moved to the Ozark Mountains in Williford where he enjoyed the nature he loved so dearly.
Survivors include his wife, Jackie of the home; a daughter, Jackie Markena Lanska and her husband, David, of West Bend, Wis.; a son, Jerry A. Ball and his wife, Joanne, of Kenosha; a daughter, Sonja I. Koble and her husband, Gary of Hawaii; a son, Mark D. Ball and his wife, Christine, of Kenosha; a brother, John R. Ball of Milwaukee; 10 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters and three brothers.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Feb. 19 at Tri-County's Cherokee Chapel with C.C. Baird officiating.
Burial will follow in the Wiles Cemetery at Ash Flat, Ark.
Visitation is scheduled for Feb. 18 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Tri-County's Cherokee Chapel of Hardy, Ark.
The family requests that memorials be made to the Eastern Ozarks Hospice in Cherokee Village.
