Firefighters were able to contain a blaze at the Ozark Motel in Salem Dec. 22, preventing the fire from destroying the business on Highway 62/412.

When the Salem Fire Department arrived at the structure flames had already entered the attic and had burned through the roof, said Fire Chief Heath Everett.

Two utility rooms and three guest rooms were damaged by fire and water. The remaining guest rooms had smoke and slight water damage, Everett said.

Damage to the structure was estimated at $100,000. No one was injured in the blaze.

Firefighters brought the fire under control and contained the fire to the east end of the motel complex.

The fire department used three fire engines along with equipment and personnel from Camp, Morriston, Viola, Saddle and Byron fire departments.

The Salem Police Department, Fulton County Sheriff's Office, Arkansas State Police and Fulton County Emergency Medical Services assisted in combating the fire, Everett added.
