Authorities found a 31-year-old Louisiana woman bound and partially undressed in her car along Highway 63 north of Hardy Dec. 15.
Sharp County 9-1-1 received a call around 10 p.m. from the woman who said she dialed her cellular phone with her nose. A Hardy officer and Fulton County deputies were dispatched to the scene, about five miles south of Mammoth Spring.
Upon arrival, they found the woman in the front seat of her 2000 Chevrolet Lumina. The interior lights were on and the car doors were open. The woman had her hands tied behind her back and her pants were partially pulled down, Fulton County Chief Deputy Carrol Traw said.
The woman was on her way to Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo., to meet her estranged husband. She told officers she had stopped on the shoulder of the road to repair a rear window which was broken. The window was covered with a garbage bag secured by duct tape, Traw said.
"She had pulled over to tape up a window on her car and a guy stopped and asked if he could help," Traw said. "He hit her in the head, tied her up with her rope and duct tape, pulled her pants down and put her in her car."
Aside from having a large bump on her head from where the suspect hit her, the woman was unharmed. She told police she had not been sexually assaulted by the assailant, but said she thought he had planned on doing so. She said she thought he didn't because of an approaching vehicle.
"Evidently, if it happened, he intended to sexually assault her because her pants were undone and were partially pulled down," Traw said.
The woman said the suspect was 5-10 to 5-11 with a medium build. She said, "He talks like a redneck."
Officers collected fingerprints from the car. The investigation is continuing.
