OREGON COUNTY -- Jo Beth Prewitt of Thayer was the winner among the three candidates for the associate judge's race in Oregon County. Prewitt was declared the unofficial winner late, Aug. 6 by Oregon County Clerk Gary Hensley. Prewitt received 913 votes compared to Ray Lee Caskey's 631 votes. Willaim T. Hass received 601 votes.
In the prosecuting attorney race, Fred O'Neill was declared the unofficial winner with 1,261 votes to opponent Rizwan Ahad with 780 votes.
Mike Dethrow, who was seeking the Republican spot for state representative on the November ballot, received 671 votes compared to opponent Tim Slayton's 63 votes. Either Dethrow or Slayton will face Larry Jackson in the fall election. Jackson recived 1,472 votes
Jo Ann Emerson won easily as the Republican candidate for the 8th Congressional District. In Oregon County she received 618 votes.
Proposition A was defeated in the county 553 yes votes to 2,216 no votes. Proposition B was also defeated in Oregon County by 359 yes votes to 2,451 no votes .
The Alton School issue was defeated by patrons of the Alton School District 752 no votes to 608 yes votes.
