Owens to mark 95th birthday

The family of Ollie Owens of Union invite all friends and relatives to celebrate Owens' 95th birthday.The party will be from 2 to 4 p.m. July 13 at Mount Zion Baptist Church in Union.Ollie, born July 13, 1907, in Calico Rock, is the daughter of George and Mollie Matney Jennings. She is the youngest of seven children born to the couple.She married C.L. "Spikey" Owens at Brockwell in 1929. He passed away in 1974. The couple had eight children.They and their spouses are Wendell and Bea Owens of Cashmere, Wash., Bill and Laureta Freeman of Twin Falls, Idaho, George and Hazel Powell of Moxee, Wash., Homer "Son-ny" Owens of West Plains, Ed and Janet Owens of Union, Jerry and Eileen Owens of Chehalis, Wash., and Charles Owens of Salem. Their son Larry Owens died in 1996. He was married to Betty Owens of Oxford.Ollie still lives in her own home and enjoys spending time with her family, which includes 27 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.She enjoys flowers, reading and bird watching. When she was younger she loved to travel. She went many times to Washington and California.Before the birthday celebration a potluck lunch will be served at noon at the churchThose attending are asked to bring a covered dish.
