COUCH SCHOOL -- Members of the Couch School Board discused an issue concerning facility use insurance by groups and individuals who are not directly related to the school who are using school facilities. No action was taken by board members at the Feb. 11 school board metting concerning the insurance issues.
Board members voted to adopt an amendment to the 2002-03 budget. They also voted not to have summer school this summer.
Superintendent Rolla Fraley discussed the outlook concerning state funds for the 2003-04 school year, as well as other budget issues.
The board approved the K-8 Reading Plan and voted to amend the 2002-03 school calendar to reflect school being in session all day March 13 and school being is session on March 14, 17 and April 21.
Principals presented monthly attendance reports, discussed upcoming extra curricular events as well as events which have had to be canceled due to the weather.
They reported that the third quarter is scheduled to end March 13, providing no more days are missed.
The elementary school's participation in the St. Jude's Penny-A-Thon was commended.
The superintendent reported on fuel usage. He also reported that the railings have been installed in the gym.
He informed school board members of recent bus problems.
He also discussed the possibility of implementing snow routes.
In executive session, school board members voted to accept Rick Joiner's resignation and voted to employ Gary Fields as bus mechanic/maintenance man for the remainder of the 2002-03 school year.
The board voted to add Birvon L. Strong's name to the substitute teacher list and voted to offer Russell Deckard and William Thomas Bull contracts as building principal for the 2003-04 school year.
The next regular meeting of the Couch School Board will be March 13 at 7 p.m. in the school library.
