Juveniles arrested in incident at Alton involving burglary

ALTON -- Oregon County Sheriff Tim Ward has announced that two Alton juveniles have been arrested and charged with burglary and theft of property.

Ward said Argo's, located about one mile west of Alton, was broken into during the early morning hours Feb. 5. The sheriff said entry was gained to the building by removing the bars on a window in the front of the building.

Ward said alcohol and beer as well as cigars, lighters and lottery tickets valued at more that $1,000 were taken.

He said $300 in cash and $150 in change was also taken from the business

Also on the night of the breakin at Argo's a briefcase was stolen from a truck parked at Grandma's Kitchen. The truck belonged to Stanley R. Melton of Alton.

That same night a car belonging Jessica Bates on Water Street in Alton was rolled into a tree and damaged.

Ward said two male juveniles have been arrested and charged with all the incidents that occurred Feb. 5.

Sheriff Ward said they were both turned over to the 138th District Juvenile Office.
