Alexa Moody, granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Huett Jr. of Elizabeth and Mr. and Mrs. John Moody Jr. of Salem will compete in the Odyssey of the Mind World Finals May 22-25 at the University of Colorado in Boulder. Her team, composed of seven 4th graders at M.D. Williams Intermediate School in Pocahontas, placed first at the state meet in Mountain Home on April 13. Eleven teams performed in the "Classics . . . Center Stage" problem in which the students perform a humorous skit they created. The skit is based on a selection from a given list of classical literature. The team builds a stage set and choreographs a routine that is performed during the presentation. They conclude with an epilogue, which includes a character from a different work on the list, and relate it to the skit they have performed.Partners with NASA, Odyssey of the Mind is a creative problem-solving program that teaches students how to think divergently by providing five new competitive, open-ended problems yearly. Approximately 15,000 students from around the world, representing 700 teams, will compete in the finals.Alexa is the 10-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Steve Moody of Pocahontas.
