MAMMOTH SPRING -- The 2005 budget for the city of Mammoth Spring was passed by the city council Jan. 3. The budget for the city is $573,100.
Legislation passed last year by the Arkansas Legislature allows municipalities in the state to pass one resolution allowing party primaries in cities instead of having to pass a resolution every year. The Mammoth Spring Council passed such a resolution and in the future will not have to pass the resolution every year.
Mayor Jean Pace told council members that the early summer storm of two years ago destroyed nearly 100 trees in the city. She described the "Tree City USA" program. She said this is a USDA Forest Service program in which cities could purchase up to $2,000 in trees to be placed on any city property and be reimbursed. The council did not make a decision on joining the program.
