Ralph "Bud" Edwards

Born 3-21-1934

Graveside funeral services for Ralph (Bud) Edwards were held at the Thayer Cemetery Jan. 11, 2005, with Father Richard Moon of the West Plains All Saints Episcopol Church where he was an active member, presiding.

He was born March 21 1934 to Clarence and Lorene Staten Edwards and attended Thayer High School. There he was an all-conference basketball player who led the Bobcats to SCA titles and state playoffs. On Nov. 24, 1951, he was married to Norma Newberry, also of Thayer.

Upon graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served as flight controller during the Korean War. The training and experience he received led to his joining the Federal Aviation Agency where he enjoyed a 25 year career, mostly based in Memphis. He retired and moved back to West Plains in the early 1980s.

For many years he was an active member of several fraternal and service organizations, including A,Vets, the Masonic Lodge, the Host Shrine, and the West Plains Elks. He held several leadership positions including terms as ER and DDGER at both the local and regional level.

His wife Norma; a son Ralph Jr. and wife Taru of West Plains; a daughter Diane Smith and husband Bart, of Springfield, and one brother, Glen, also of West Plains, survive him.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Walter, Roy and Robert,
