Nellie J. Crews, a native of Mammoth Spring, Ark., and life long resident of St. Louis, Mo., died Jan. 3, 2005, at Mobile, Ala. She moved to Mobile in November of 1998 to be near her son. She was born March 26, 1909, to James N. and Elizabeth Hunt. She was a member of Creekwood Church of Christ in Mobile.

White Motor Company of St. Louis, Mo. employed Crews until her retirement, after which she worked until age 89 with the County of St. Louis for the County Older Resident Program (CORP) as a coordinator for many volunteers. CORP volunteers assist the aged, handicapped and indigent citizens in the St. Louis area. She will also be remembered by her friends in St. Louis and Mammoth Spring for her liberal giving of time and money to help the less fortunate through benevolent and mission teaching programs by the Churches of Christ in St. Louis, and Mammoth Spring. She was a faithful Christian and rarely ever missed church worship services until she was confined to her home because of failing health a few months prior to her death.

She is survived by a son, Hurley Crews (Eloise), of Mobile; a grandson, Keith Crews (Glenna), of Houston, Texas; two great-granddaughters -- Emily Crews of Houston and Suzanne Crews of Mobile; and a great-great-granddaughter, Kaylee Anne of Mobile.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, two brothers and a grandson, Hurley Crews Jr.

Carter Funeral Home of Thayer, Mo. conducted funeral arrangements.

The funeral was Jan. 8 in the Carter Funeral Home Chapel. Interment was in the Riverside Cemetery at Mammoth Spring.
