Elsie Madeline Maxwell, age 77, of Salem, daughter of the late Thomas A. and Ida Mae Simpson Shockley was born July 4, 1925, at Conway, Mo. She departed this life Jan. 15, 2003, at Salem. She spent her working years as a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, a machinist and cook. She enjoyed going to the Salem Senior Citizen's Center where she made pies and visited. She was a member of Moko Church of Christ.
Survivors include three daughters -- Kay Basshasm and husband, Nelson of Moko, Linda Ward and husband, Jesse of Blue Springs, Mo., and Tammy Reynolds and husband, Lynn of Salem; one brother, Truitt Dean Shockley of Redding, Calif.; six grandchildren -- Penny Bassham, Shannon Bassham, Cory Bassham, Joleen Paul, Janessa Reynolds, and Dusty Reynolds; six great-grandchildren -- Kellen, Chelsea, Garrett and Lindsey Bassham; and Bradley and Lauren Sanders; special nephew, Ronnie Swafford, wife Jolene and son Nathan; and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; one brother, Marion Shockley; and one sister, Margaret Jacobson.
The funeral was Jan. 18 at Moko Church of Christ with Bro. Duane Warden officiating. Interment was in the Southfork Cemetery in Southfork, Mo. with arrangements under the direction of Barker Funeral Home of Salem.
Pallbearers were Shannon Bassham, Cory Bassham, Meri Rice, Sonny Maguffee, Lee Bassham, and David McHenry.
