Couch superintendent's contract extended through 2004-05
COUCH SCHOOL -- Several items of interest were on the agenda at the Jan. 14 Couch School Board meeting including approving the Couch senior class trip to Panama City, Fla., providing funding is available.School board members were updated on budget matters and expect cuts in state revenues and possible additional budget cuts.
The board voted to pay for a new bus on a lease purchase agreement with the Alton Bank. School board members heard a request from several students who are participating in the Youth Summit Project to help provide funds for a school sign.
School board members were informed the school recently received a notice from the Music Insurance Company informing the school they recommend requiring individuals or groups requesting to use school facilities to provide proof of liability insurance covering the planned event. No action was taken on the matter at the meeting.
The board voted to amend the 2002-03 school calendar to reflect school being in session Feb. 17, Presidents Day.
The building principals presented the monthly attendance report and discussed absenteeism due to illness. They also discussed extracurricular events and rescheduling of events postponed due to illness.
Superintendent Rolla Fraley discussed bus and roofing repairs. He also informed school board members the school had received a load of L.P. fuel.
After executive session the board voted to offer Joyse Powell a contract for the remainder of the school year as a teacher's aide and to add Rhonda Davis's name to the substitute teachers list. The board voted to extend Fraley's contract as superintendent through the 2004-05 school year and approved three weeks' vacation beginning in the year 2003-04 and beyond.
The next regular meeting of the Couch School Board will be Feb. 11 at 7 p.m.
