The new weather station which the city of Cherokee Village and Sharp County are sponsoring is to be located on a tower in Agnos.
According to Cherokee Village Mayor Ray Maynard, this site was chosen because of its ability to provide coverage to citizens in all of Sharp, Fulton and Izard counties, as well as to citizens in a radius of about 45 miles.
The NOAA weather radio station will provide warnings of hazardous weather conditions as well as other events which could be an immediate threat to life and property. It will also provide continuous weather broadcasts. This signal can be received on standard weather radios available at most stores with an electronics department, Maynard said.
"In addition to the grant for the transmitter, we have obtained grant funding for 103 weather alert receivers to be placed in schools and other public places which will provide early warning to our citizens," he said.
Maynard added Louisa Relyea and Oral Henderson were instrumental in obtaining this grant for the community.
