Lawrence Adam Brown, 91, son of the late John Adam Brown and Rebecca Annette Havens Brown, was born Oct. 18, 1911 in Phelps County, Mo., and died Jan. 28, 2003, in West Plains, Mo. He was united in marriage Dec. 3, 1934, in West Plains to Joanna Warren.

He was a veteran of the United States Army, seving during World War II. He was a member of the American Legion Charles Burkett Post 344 in Thayer.

He was a member of the First Church of God in Thayer where he served on the Board of Trustees and was a Sunday School teacher for many years

He was a well-known and talented singer, singing in gospel quartets and sang for many funerals. He enjoyed coon hunting and was devoted to his Lord and to his family.

Survivors include his wife, Joanna of the home near Thayer; one son, Joe Brown and wife, Kathryn of Mammoth Spring; six grandchildren, T. J. Brown and wife, Wendy of Lebanon, Mo., Kathy Bowers and husband, Bill of Mammoth Spring, Robert Brown and wife, Kristy of Thayer, Keith Teichmer of Thayer, Ed Brown of Thayer and Luanne Mock and husband, Bob of West Plains; 16 great agrandchildren; two sisters -- Jewell Greene of Chanute, Kan., and Alpha Shaffer of Albuquerque, N.M.; and many other relatives and friends

He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers -- Robert, Jim, Bert, Walter and Noble Brown; and four sisters -- Ivah Taylor, Virginia Brown, Lucille Thompson and Ruby Cantrell.

Services were Feb. 1 at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer with Rev. Robert Brown and Rev. T. J. Brown officiating. Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Thayer with arrangements under the direction of Carter Funeral Home Inc. of Thayer.

Pallbearers were Ed Brown, Curtis Bowers, Andrew Brown, Bill Bowers, Adam Brown and Ted Brown.
