As an opportunity to encourage both industrial and commercial enterprises to visit and eventually relocate in the city of Horseshoe Bend, council members visited with representatives from Arkansas Economic Development Council (AEDC) at the city council meeting Oct. 21.
Gil DeLorenzo of North Central Arkansas Regional Economic Development Corporation and Steve Bateman of the AEDC discussed the merits of the city joining the group. Both men explained that as a member the city would be able to advertise the city and all of the available industrial and commercial property on the World Wide Web site to promote the city.
It was approved for the Recorder/Treasurer Sally Pohl to issue a check in the amount of $500 for the annual dues but the city would wait before actually joining the group.
In other business, Mayor Bob Spear said he and Aldermen George Evans and George Williamson had looked into the service offered by TowerLink. Spear said that Will Robson has been in contact with engineers from Alltel and they had reviewed the Reeves tower and one of the water towers. The installation of the transmitting and receiving equipment should be scheduled soon. With the addition of the new equipment it should enable residents to have better cellular phone service in the city.
Resolution 2002-06 was adopted by the council opposing the passage of Amendment 3.
Resolution 2002-05 was adopted levying the millage for 2002 to be collected in 2003.
Spear read a letter of resignation from Ed Carrier, a member of the Board of Zoning Adjustment.
