James Lee Atwell, 70, son of the late Nolan Austin and Claudia Bea Russell Atwell was born Nov. 8, 1934, at Clovis, N.M. He died Dec. 12, 2004, at Salem, Ark.
He married Lynettie Blanch Lary Feb. 5, 1960, at Clovis. He spent his working years as a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and a convenient store manager.
He served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. He was of the Baptist Faith.
Survivors are his wife, Lynettie Atwell of Oxford.; a son, Nolan Austin Atwell, III., of Zion; three daughters -- Yolanda Verhegghe of St. John, Ariz.; Fletach Austin Stovall of Melbourne; and Jayne Leeanne Perkins of Oxford; four step-daughters -- Varney Lucas of Bandera, Texas; Frances Ford of Venus, Texas; Katie Binns of Fort Worth, Texas; and Dee Hering of Bogalusa, La.; three brothers -- David Atwell of Roswell, N.M.; Albert Atwell of Roswell, and Maynard Atwell of Arizona; a sister, Pauline Led-better of Pottsboro, Texas; 19 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Nolan Austin Atwell II.
The body was cremated with arrangements under the direction of the Barker Funeral Home of Salem, Ark.
