ALTON -- Christos House officials announced last week the opening of their latest outreach office, Serenity Place. It is located at 17 Court Square (above the Flower Merchant) in Alton.
Advocates will be available five days a week to help families or individuals in need. Serenity Place is being made possible by an anonymous donation from a local citizen.
Christos House Domestic and Sexual Assault Services was established in 1982 by a group of concerned citizens. Today the agency serves eight counties in south-central Missouri providing shelter for victims of domestic abuse, support groups for women and children, legal advocacy, emergency assistance, parenting classes, prevention programs in the schools, help for victims of sexual assault and referrals.
Sherry Fohey, Oregon County advocate said, "Christos House is a safety net for the community. We provide options for people who feel they haven't any, and we provide safety and support for those in need. With the opening of Serenity Place we will be able to better serve the residents in Oregon and Shannon counties,"
Currently Christos House is offering parenting classes at no charge on Tuesdays at 10 a.m. and additional classes and support groups groups are being scheduled. Anyone who wants more information can call Fohey at 417-778-7159.
