Clifton Wandell Rook Pate, 70, son of James Harvey Pate and Georgie Tucker Pate Newberry, was born Aug. 22, 1934, in Bagwell, Texas, He died Feb. 18, 2005, at Salem.
He married Barbara Stuart July 17, 1954, in Salem and later to Mary Jo Barrett on Jan. 12, 1997, at Salem. He spent his working year as husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and managing supervisor for King Ready Mix. He was a member and deacon of Salem First Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Jo Pate of Salem; two sons -- Ricky Pate and wife, Janet, of Salem, and Mark Pate and wife, Holly, of Salem; three daughters -- Connie Pate and Bill Belew of Viola, Ark., Angie Bishop and husband Brad, of Salem, and Marla Long and husband, Jeff, of Glencoe, Ark.; two step-daughters -- Tina Crenshaw and Richard of St. Charles, Mo., and Shanna Maguffee and husband, Bob, of Mammoth Spring, Ark; two brothers -- Leon Newberry and wife, Claudene, of Salem, and Jim Pate and wife, Lola, of Grand Saline, Texas; mother-in-law, Goldie Weaver of Salem; mother-in-law and father-in-law -- Cecil and Mayzell Stuart of Salem; brothers-in-law, Darrell and Jeanette Stuart of Salem and Jerry and Ruby Stuart of Salem; 17 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara; his parents; and his step-father, Charley Newberry.
The funeral was Feb. 21 at Salem First Baptist Church in Salem. Interment was in Salem Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of Barker Funeral Home of Salem.
Pallbearers were Bill Newton, Bennie Crouch, Dowl Godwin, Seth Pate, Jeremy Roberts and Stacey Thomas.
Honorary pallbearers were Salem First Baptist Church Deacons.
Memorials are preferred to the Salem First Baptist Church Building Fund.
