Billy Joe Yancey, 68, son of the late Eldon and Epper Dockins Yancey was born June 29, 1933 in Brockwell, Ark. He died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2002. He was married to Carol Jean Tate on April 25, 1953 in Calico Rock, and to this union three children were born. During his working years, he was self-employed as a farmer and carpenter. He also served in the U. S. Army. He served as a deacon at Highland First Assembly of God Church in Highland, Ark.Survivors include his wife and companion of 48 years, Carol Yancey of the home; three sons, Donnie Joe Yancey of Violet Hill, Stevie Gene Yancey of Jonesboro, Ind., and Terry Lynn Yancey of Wichita, Kan.; seven grandchildren, Joshua Yancey, Lindsey Yancey, Kara Yancey, Dawnyel Davis-Bissing, Jeremiah Yancey, Jerod Yancey and Lacey Yancey; two great-grandchildren, Jacob Henry Davis-Bissing, and Noah Philip Yancey; two sisters, Bertha Mae Billingsley of Violet Hill and Georgia Gaye Ramsey of Shawnee, Kan.; and a host of other relatives and friends.He was preceded in death by his parents.Services were Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2002 at 2 p.m. at the Roman and Bill Howard Memorial Chapel in Melbourne with Bro. Tim Turner officiating. Burial was in the Violet Hill Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of Eddie's Family Funeral Home of Melbourne.Pallbearers were Richard Hennessey, Clint Wiles, Charles wiles, Dennis Sublett, Nathan Hubbard, and Jessie Smith.Honorary pallbearers were Dwight Hickman, Glenn Broyles, Paul Kitch, Mark Alexander, and Bill Sartin.Memorials can be made to the Highland First AG Scholar-ship Fund for ministerial students.
