Louise Dorothy Rice, 79 of Williford, Ark., formerly of West Helena, died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2002 at her home. She was born Dec. 7, 1922 in Rim Rock, Wash., the daughter of the late Glenn Edward and Evelyn Lillian (Whitner) Babbitt. She was married to Chester Dean Rice on Dec. 24, 1943 in Medford, Oregon. He preceded her in death on Sept. 9, 1999. She was formerly employed by Gibson's Department Store in West Helena and was a member of the Ward Street Church of Christ in Hardy.Survivors include three daughters, Mary Garrison of Hardy, Billie Jean Ray of West Helena, and Sharon Frachiseur of Ruston, La.; one step-daughter, Glyn Logue of Williford; two sons, Edward Rice of Pine Bluff and Steven Rice of Houma, La.; one sister, Velma Kunkel of Randle, Wash.; 13 grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and one daughter, Phyllis Ann Rice.Services were Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2002 at 10 a.m. at the Ward Street Church of Christ with Rev. Tom O'Neal officiating. Burial was in the Baker Cemetery at Williford with arrangements under the direction of Higginbotham Funeral Service, Inc. of Hardy.Pallbearers were Robert Ray, Jr., Coley Rice, Tim Long, James Smith, Sr., James Smith, Jr., and Wilbert Burkes.
