Harrison Rebels finish Nationals in 12th place

The Harrison Rebels 1-year-old baseball team finished 12th in the National USSASA 14-and-Under Baseball Tourn-ament held last week in Kansas City, Kan.

The team finished the four-day tournament with a 4-3 record, losing its three games by a combined total of only four runs.

The Rebels, the Arkansas 14-and-under 2003 state champs, lost to the Texas state champions from Bowie, Texas, the eventual 2003 national second place team.

The Rebels lost by a score of 6-4 in extra innings to the Texas team.

Another loss went to the Oklahoma state champion Mudhens 9-8 while playing in the championship bracket. The Mudhens finished the national tournament in fourth place.

Local Highland Rebel players Kolby King of Hardy and Billy Ninemire of Salem played on the 10-member Rebel team coached by Highland High School coach Marty Ninemire.

The remainder of the team consisted of 14-year-old players from Harrison, Valley Springs, Eureka Springs, Berryville and Bergman.

The Harrison Rebels finished their successful 2003 season with a 46-12 record, winning seven tournaments and placing second in two of the 12 tournaments entered during the recent season.
