Mary Leola Southard, of Jonesboro, Ark., daughter of
the late George Zelmar and Lula Neal Blair, was born
Sept. 15, 1918, in Izard County, Ark. She died Aug. 16,
2003, at Jonesboro, Ark., at the age of 84.
She married Wiley Wayne Southard in August of 1940,
and to this union two children were born.
She spent her working years as a wife, mother,
grandmother, great-grandmother and a homemaker.
She was a member of the Wheeling Church of Christ.
Survivors include a son, Leland Southard and wife,
Judith, of Alexandria, Va.; a daughter, Dr. Carolyn
McQuien and husband, Dr. Paul. McQuien, of San
Antonio, Texas; four grandchildren -- Katharine
Southard, Bruce McQuien, Britton McQuien and
Courtney McQuien Smith; and three
great-grandchildren -- Katie McQuien, Meagan McQuien
and Elizabeth McQuien.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her
husband; and five brothers -- Jimmie, Paul, Leslie,
Lindall and Oren Blair.
The funeral was Aug. 22 at the Barker Funeral Home
Chapel in Salem, Ark., with Rick Small officiating.
Interment was in Harmony Cemetery at Wheeling, Ark.,
with arrangements under the direction of Barker
Pallbearers were Bruce McQuien, Britton McQuien, Paul
McQuien, Dorwood Crouch, Gordon Barnett and Jim
