A Cherokee Village man was killed April 14 in a one-vehicle accident on Pottawattamie Drive near Pioneer Auction.

According to a report from Cpl. Wendall Jines with the Arkansas State Police, Gregory Bayes, 36, was westbound on the street near the intersection of Tekakwitha around 12:17 p.m. in a 1992 Ford Taurus when the vehicle traveled off the roadway and struck a tree.

Bayes was transported to Eastern Ozarks Regional Health System where he was pronounced dead.

Jines said Bayes was not wearing a safety belt. The road conditions were clear, he said.

Bayes worked part-time as a maintenance man for Sonic and also worked for IESI in Ash Flat.

Bayes was married to Theresa Bayes and the couple had one son.

A Williford man is in serious condition at a Springfield, Mo., hospital after a fiery crash that claimed the life of a Missouri woman near Thayer April 18.

The accident occurred on Highway 63, two miles north of Thayer when a 1996 Ford driven by John Sitz, 59, of Williford crossed the center line and struck a southbound 1996 Oldsmobile driven by Sandra Robinson, 51, of Republic, Mo., according to a report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol. Sitz's vehicle continued south and struck a northbound 2002 Ford driven by Harriet Rodriguez, 54, of Springfield, Mo. Sitz's vehicle came to rest on its side in the roadway and caught fire.

Robinson was pronounced dead at the scene by Oregon County Sheriff Tim Ward.

Sitz received serious injuries and was transferred to St. John's Regional Health Center. His passenger, W.E. Hughes, 70, of Hardy, received moderate injuries and was taken to Ozarks Medical Center in West Plains. Rodriguez was not injured in the accident, the report said.

Sitz's and Robinson's vehicles were both totaled in the wreck, the report said.

The accident was investigated by Trooper S.L. Nelson and Sgt. D.D. Finley with the Missouri Highway Patrol.
