Leonard Henry Giles, 81, of Salem, Ark., son of the late Leonard Vaden and Iva Lee Jolliff Giles was born May 25, 1922.
Henry married Alice Faye Langston July 11, 1962, at Granite City, Ill. He spent his working years as a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, master mechanic, and inspector at the Granite City, Ill. Depot. He was president of the AFGE union, a 32nd Degree Mason, shriner and a member of the Southern Baptist Church, being baptized when he was 9 years old by the Rev. Husky at Manila, Ark.
He served his country in the United States Army during World War II, receiving an honorable discharge after the war.
Survivors include his wife, Faye Giles of Salem, Ark.; a son, Jairan Giles and wife, Katherine, of Fort Worth, Texas; a daughter, Suzette Steel and husband, Jim, of Granite City, Ill.; three brothers -- Frank Giles of Saugatuck, Mich., Chuck L. Giles of Blytheville, Ark., and Max Larry Giles of Fairfield, Iowa.; four sisters -- Helen Cook of Granite City, Ill., Louie Heser of Blytheville, Betty Nevendorf of Coloma, Mich. and Norma Bace-Bowland of Crossville, Tenn.; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Iva; a brother, Hugh Giles; and four infant siblings -- Acie, Macy, Vernal and Gene Dale.
The funeral was April 14 at Barker Funeral Home Chapel in Salem with William Hughart officiating. Interment was in Salem Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of Barker Funeral Home of Salem.
Pallbearers were Shane Steel, Adam Giles, Andy Giles, Wayne Nunnery, David Nunnery and Charlie Mothershed.
Memorials are preferred to the Salem Assembly of God Church.
