Born 4-13-1920 -- Died 12-7-2003
Geren Bernard Neal, of Viola, son of the late Charlie and Gracie McKee Neal, was born April 13, 1920 in Union, Ark. He died Dec. 7, 2003 at the Medical Center of Calico Rock at the age of 83 years.
He was united in marriage to Hazel Inez Smith on Feb. 27, 1943, in El Paso, Texas. To this union four children were born. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II for four years, 11 months and 17 days under the command of Gen. Patton's 3rd Army as Tech Sergeant, being a machine gun gunner on a tank, and was awarded the Purple Heart. He fulfilled his life as a farmer, husband, and a loving father. He was a member of the Hebron Church.
Survivors included his wife, Hazel Neal of the home at Mitchell; his children -- Allen J. and Jannette Neal of Mitchell, Charles and Judy Neal of Gepp, Sandra Kay and Gene Sublett of Bono, and Dwight and Monte Neal of Mitchell; seven grandchildren -- Kurtis Neal, Charlotte Hutson, Deana Hunter, Renea Prince, Chris Sublett, Cheryl Campbell and Ewell Neal; four great-grandchildren -- Jacob Hutson, Haley Hunter, Regan Prince and J.D. Campbell; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Edith Bird-song, his twin brother, Gerald Neal and a brother, Elbert Neal.
Services were Dec. 11 at Mitchell Assembly of God Church. Burial was at Mitchell Cemetery with arrangements by Cox Blevins Funeral Home of Salem, Ark.
