THAYER -- A former Thayer woman, Christie Freeman Hildebrant, was remembered in the July issue of USA Water Skier for accomplishments she made 25 years ago.
The article said Hildebrant, a former world slalom champion and record holder, was also featured in the 1978 issue of the Water Skier for her role in the movie "Jaws 2." She spent a month on location at Martha's Vineyard with the cast and crew of the movie. She then spent another three months on location near Pensacola, Fla. Her mother, Rosie Freeman of Thayer, said all of that action was collapsed into about five minutes in the finished "Jaws" sequel. She met her fate in the movie clad in a green one-piece suit riding a slalom ski.
Another movie that opened recently, "Freaky Friday," a remake of the 1976 Disney movie by the same name, also brings Hildebrant to mind.
She did all the stunt work for the water skiing action in the movie. The work was done at Mission Bay in San Diego.
Today Hildebrant is the director of the Penrose-St. Francis Health Services Health Learning Center/Senior Clinic for Centura Health in Colorado Springs, Colo.
She was inducted in the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame in 1995. She is a 1970 graduate of Thayer High School and the daughter of Rosie Freeman of Thayer and the late Pat Freeman.
