Stanford Barfield

Stanford Alexander Barfield, of Mountain Home, Ark., formerly of Viola, son of the late Gordon Lafayette Barfield and Anna Lura Morton Barfield, was born Nov. 6, 1914, in Barwick, Ga. He died Aug. 15, 2003, at Baxter Regional Medical Center in Mountain Home at the age of 88 years.

He married Mary Ella Barksdale on June 1, 1941, at St. Petersburg, Fla.

He served his country in the U. S. Army. He was a cement finisher and carpenter by trade. He worked in St. Petersburg and Tampa, Fla., and various other areas. He worked in Civil Service in the Army Air Forces Storage Depot in Atlanta, the Veterans Administration Hospi-tal in Bay Pines, Fla., and U.S. Coast Guard Air Station in St. Petersburg, Fla. In Jan. 1975, he retired and moved to Viola. In May of 1993, he moved to Mountain Home.

Survivors are his wife, Mary of the family home in Mountain Home; one brother, Charles Lindbergh Barfield of Port St. John, Fla.; a sister, Grace Helen Graham of Perry, Fla.; and a many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Fate Lafayette Barfield; three sisters -- Gladys Clarice Goley, Alberta Esther Wiggins and Alabet Virginia Huff; and his father and mother.

The funeral was Aug. 18 at Salem United Methodist Church with Doug Criss officiating. Burial was in Viola Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of Cox-Blevins Funeral Home.
