Accidents down in Troop G area

TROOP G -- Accident totals for the first seven months of 2003 compared to 2002 have dropped in the nine-county Troop G area.

During the first seven months of 2002, 1,040 accidents were investigated in the area compared to 927 in the same time period in 2003. According to Capt. B.E. Chadwick, commanding officer with Troop G of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, this is down by 113 accidents.

Fatalities were also down, according to Chadwick. During the first seven months of 2002, 29 deaths were reported and during the first seven months of this year 24 fatalities were reported. In 2002, 618 people reported injuries compared to 575 this year.

In Oregon County, eight accidents were investigated with no fatalities, and five people were injured.Howell County was again the high accident county reporting 37 accidents, three deaths and 28 people injured as a result of the accidents.

The remaining Troop G counties reported the following accident information: Carter, three accidents; Douglas, 20 accidents, one death and 14 injuries; Ozark, 14 accidents, 12 injuries; Reynolds, 12 accidents, one death and 13 injuries; Shannon, six accidents, four injuries; Texas, 32 accidents, one death and 18 injuries; Wright, 12 accidents, six injuries.

There were a total of 144 accidents investigated in the Troop G area during the month of July. Twenty-four fatalities were reported and 100 people received injuries as a result of those accidents.
