Charles Wesley Sample, 83, of Horse-shoe Bend, died at his residence Sept. 2, 2003. Born in Des Moines, Iowa, he was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army Air Force.
He was retired from the Horseshoe Bend Police Department as a Dispatcher and police officer. He was an active member as a Mason in the Masonic Lodge 350 in Franklin. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite and Shriners' Scimitar Temple in Little Rock. He was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans, American Legion 0344 and AARP.
Survivors are his wife, Mary Lou; three sons -- Charles W. Sample Jr. of Atlanta, Ga.; Michael Ray Sample of Des Moines; and Daryl Dean Sample of Ohio; a daughter, Cheryl Ann Williams of Ash Flat; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and stepfather and a brother.
A service and Masonic service was Sept. 5 at Horseshoe Bend Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Jack Auten officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Horseshoe Bend Memorial Chapel.
Burial and military honors were at the Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery in North Little Rock.
