June 5 marks the 60th wedding anniversary of George and Anna Vore of Ash Flat. George Thomas Vore Jr. and Anna Laura Dark were married June 5, 1942, at Fort Smith. The wedding was performed by George Vore Sr. with other family members present.George was born June 8, 1919, in Coalinga, Calif. His childhood was spent in Cuba where his father was a Seventh-Day Adventist missionary. He served in World War II in the 5th Air Force Paramedic Division, 871st Company, Engineers Aviation Battalion as staff sergeant.Anna Laura was born June 10, 1924, in Grand Glaze, Ark., and lived nearly all her youth in Hardy. She attended Old Hardy High School, played basketball with the Bulldogs and was the team's beauty queen.The couple met while Anna was in high school. They married shortly after her graduation. While living in Ventura, Calif., they had a daughter, Patricia Ann, born Feb. 19, 1944. George graduated from Los Angeles College of Mortuary Science in 1949. Their son, Walter Avon, was born Feb. 1, 1952, in California. In 1965 the Vores moved to Hardy where they owned and operated Best Flower Shop. George also worked for Higginbotham Funeral Home and Heath Funeral Home.The Vores have five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
