THAYER -- Family and friends have joined forces to help a local woman who recently heard the sounds of life for the first time. Carolyn Ary has been deaf all her life. She recently had a hearing aid transplant and is now able to hear sound for the first time. She has a battery pack with several wires, but for $3,000 she can have a wireless battery to put on her hearing aid. Her family and friends have decided to help her do this and are holding a benefit gospel concert to raise funds to purchase the device.Four local gospel groups are donating their time and talent May 31 at Thayer High School. The gospel groups include: The Living Water Quartet from West Plains and Thayer; The Mattingly Family from Moody, Mo.; the Bressler Quartet from Eminence, Mo.; and The Shaws from Walnut Ridge, Ark.Carolyn is now able to hear her husband, Tim, and sons, Zachary and Nicholas as well as birds singing, the wind blowing and the incredible gospel music that will be performed. Event organizers said that if more money is raised than is needed it will go toward traveling expenses for fine tuning the hearing device. Admission to the concert will be by donation. For more information regarding the benefit call Sunni Stevens at 417-264-9595 or 417-264-3355.
