Armed robbery thwarted in Thayer

Wednesday, March 27, 2002

Law enforcement authorities throughout the area are on the lookout for a man who attempted to rob a Thayer business March 26.

According to Peggy Edwards, co-owner/manager of Ray Noble Package Store, a man entered the business just before 3 p.m. with a handgun. It was shift change time at the store and Edwards was attempting to balance the register when the man entered the business.

"He stood about 2 feet in front of the counter with a small caliber handgun and asked me to open the register," Edwards said.

She said the would-be robber was a young man wearing a nylon hose over his face. It was at this point Edwards, who was alone, looked up and asked him what he wanted.

"he asked me to open the register and I told him the alarm had already been activated and the police were on their way," she said.

It was at this point the man left the store, walking. Edwards said he fled the business in a dark blue, 2-door sports car with a turquoise mirror on the passenger side. The car headed north toward Thayer.

Law enforcement officials are asking anyone who might have seen a car matching that description to contact the nearest law enforcement agency.
