Experience Works in OC

Wednesday, March 27, 2002

OREGON COUNTY - Established as Green Thumb in 1965 and renamed this year as Experience Works, the program is a national, not-for-profit organization that offers training, employment and community service opportunities for mature workers.

Oregon County currently has seven Experience Works employees scattered across the county in several different jobs from librarians to custodians.

These Oregon County Experience Works participants, where they are employed and who their supervisors are include: Marilyn Boliek, Alton Elementary School Library, supervised by Carolyn Barton; Mary Lou Bates, Alton Public Library, supervised by Janie Richardson; Leona Hand, Alton Elementary School office, supervised by Donna Caruthers; James Hayes, Couch School custodian, supervised by Rolla Fraley; Geraldine Holmes, Alton Senior Center, supervised by Dorothy Sisco; Joyce Roberts, Alton Health Department, supervised by Sheila Russell; and Goldie Lohr, Thayer Senior Center, supervised by Sue Barnes.

According to Anne Hutchison, Experience Works field coordinator, this program offers a wide variety of job opportunities to the senior workers in the county. She said the program places experienced, dependable workers with strong work ethics in the workforce in Oregon County as well as the other counties in southern Missouri the program serves. All of the workers are 55 or older and meet all income guidelines.

For more information about the program or the new Geezer.com program which offers handcrafted products from this area by local seniors call Hutchison at 417-926-4551 for more information.
