Piano students earn high marks

Sixteen area students participated in Region 2 Arkansas Music Teachers Association (AMTA) annual Piano Festival held at ASU in Jonesboro on March 2. All are students of Marian L. Henderson.Those who received a I+ rating in Performance are: Emily Byrne, Perry Shattuck, Chelsea Byrne, Emily Shattuck, Joshua Witter and Peter Shattuck. Perry and Emily Shattuck were declared winners in Level 2 and Level 5 respectively, and are eligible to compete at the AMTA state convention to be held in May. The other I+ rated students were designated as alternates, and may also compete. There are six AMTA regions in the state who will participate in the state convention.Number I performance ratings were awarded to Karam Sra, William Shattuck, Jessica Mescher, Marty Welsh, Thomas Welsh, Lauren Witter, Whitney McFarland and Theresa Mahoney.Number II performance ratings were given to Natasha Sra and Brianna Linder. Festival testing includes theory, technique and performance exams. Natasha Sra had a perfect score of 200 in written theory and musicianship. Scores of 100 in musicianship were achieved by Karam Sra, William Shattuck, Jessica Mescher and Whitney McFarland. Henderson has been nationally certified by MTNA since 1968.
