Herb York, 71, son of the late Homer Mitchell York and Grace Irene Pressley York was born Aug. 8, 1930, in Koshkonong, Mo., and died March 14, 2002, in St. Louis, Mo. He was a veteran of the U. S. Marine Corps, serving in the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Bakersfield Masonic Lodge and was employed for several years as as painter for Southwest Truck Body in West Plains, Mo. He was of the Baptist faith.Survivors include one step-daughter, Martha Washam of Salem; one brother, Mitchell York and wife, Flossie of Thayer; two sisters, Emma Jean Jeffries of Saint Charles, Mo., and Sue Taylor and husband, John of Imperial, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Ray York.Services were Sunday, March 17, 2002, at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer with Bro. Bill Bales and Bro. Charles Cochran officiating. Military honors were provided by the Military Funeral Honors Program, Veterans Honor Guard of West Plains. Burial was in the Shiloh Grand Gulf Cemetery near Thayer with arrangements under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, Inc. of Thayer.
