Mary Lue Hall Bolling, 91, of Harrisonville, Mo., died May 1, 2003, in Harrisonville. She was born Nov. 10, 1911 in Harrisonville at the family home.

She was the daughter of Delmer K. and Bessie Lee Christopher Hall.

Her parents were both members of early Harrisonville pioneer families. Mary received her education in Harrisonville Schools, graduating as valedictorian of her class in 1930.

She attended Central Mo. Teacher's College at Warrensburg for two years where she received a 60 hour teacher's certificate. She was employed by Harrisonville, Public Schools to teach first grade. While teaching she attended summer school at Wararensburg, the University of Wisconsin and UCLA. In 1940, she took a leave of absence from teaching and attended the University of Missouri in Columbia where she received her BS in education. A teaching job took her to Brentwood, St. Louis County, Mo.

During World War II she again took a leave of absence and worked for the Army Air Force Aeronautical Chart Plant in St. Louis. At the end of the war she met Edward R. Bolling from Pineville, Ky., and they were married Aug. 23, 1947, in the family home in Harrisonville. They lived in St. Louis until their children finished school and then "retired" to a small acreage on the Eleven Point River in the Ozarks, gradually dividing their time between Harrisonville and their river home. In 1997, they made Harrisonville their permanent home.

Survivors include a son, Edward Christopher Bolling of Benton, Mo.; a daughter, Betty Lankford of Vincennes, Ind.; five grandchildren; and two stepgrandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ed on July 16, 2000; and an infant daughter, Mary Elizabeth.

Services were May 3 at Orient Cemetery in Harrison-ville, Mo., with Rev. Don Wiltfong of the First Christian Church in Harrisonville officiating.

Arrangements were under the direction of Atkinson Funeral Home of Harrisonville, Mo.
