Thursday, May 15, 2003

COUCH SCHOOL -- The competition was tough but when the final votes were tallied it was clear that the winner was a Couch Indian teacher.

Couch consumer science teacher and FCCLA advisor Teresa Holder was honored as local Teacher of the Year May 6, National Teacher's Day, by Thayer Wal-Mart Associates.

The honor was presented to Holder during a surprise assembly at the school by Wal-Mart assistant manager Rhonda Maddeaux and associate Diane McCullough. The school received $1,000 on Holder's behalf and she was presented an honorary Wal-Mart greeter's vest.

Across the country Wal-Mart donated $3.4 million to thousands of local school to honor outstanding teachers.

Maddeaux said the program began in 1995 and since then 115 outstanding teachers have been honored in Missouri.
