On March 16-17 Salem was host to the first of six Archery Shooter's Associations 3-D archery state qualifiers. This is the second year the ASA tournaments have been held by Salem Archery Club at the Fulton County Fairgrounds. Fifty archers were in attendance on this chilly weekend, kicking off the ASA tournament qualifiers. The archers found a variety of shooting situations nestled in the hilly terrain of Salem. Prize money totalling $282 was awarded to 18 shooters. Also a big hit was the Cajun gumbo cooked by Junior Jones. First qualifier winners were: Open A -- Cam Wimpy of Harrisburg; Open B -- Tommy Thompson of Evening Shade; Open C -- Cody Passmore of Melbourne, first, and Paul Hickinbotham of Salem, second; Unlimited -- Rick Shelton of Mountain Grove, Mo.; Bow Novice -- Mike Case of Mammoth Spring, first, Jeff Holden of Hardy, second, Mike Rhodes of Cherokee Village, third, and Bruce Jones of Mountain Grove, fourth; Limited -- David Adams of Mountain Grove; Hunter -- Casey Snider of Dora, Mo., first, Robert Lee of Mountain View, Mo., second, and Jerry Shelton of West Plains, Mo., third; Women's Bowhunter -- Tracy Ledgerwood of Alton, Mo., first, and Audra Goodman of West Plains, second; Young Adult -- Josiah "Bull" Jones of Salem; Young Male -- Austin Taylor of Hardy; Eagle -- Jessica Bailey of West Plains.Salem Archery Club will host the second state qualifier April 13-14. There will be a 40 percent payback at this shoot, also. It will be a shotgun start at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m., both Saturday and Sunday. Only one day of shooting is required.
