Funeral services for Nina Christine Major Coats, 65, of Salem, Ark., were March 25, 2005, at Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer with the Rev. Bruce Stone officiating. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery with arrangements were under the direction of Carter Funeral Home of Thayer.

She was born the daughter of the late Owen Major and Altie Hurtt Major on June 5, 1939, in Mammoth Spring, Ark., and died March 19, 2005, in Salem.

She was united in marriage to Leonard Hardin who preceded her in death. She was united in marriage to Elmer Coats on Oct. 16, 1976, in Walnut Ridge, Ark., who preceded her in death. She was a seamstress, working for Salem Shirt Factory for many years. She was employed by Brown Shoe Company in Pocahontas, Ark., for several years. Later she became a certified nurses assistant and worked as a CNA until her retirement.

She was a devoted mother and grandmother and will be sadly missed by her family and friends.

She was a member of the Church of Christ.

Survivor include two daughters -- Janice Huddle and husband, Eugene, of Salem, and Ada Wright of Beaver, Okla.; a son, Frankie Hardin of Beaver; four stepsons and their families -- Ronnie Coats of Walnut Ridge, Greg Coats of Hoxie, Jeff Coats of Jamestown, Tenn., and Tony Coats of Walnut Ridge; six grandchildren -- Leonard Brown of Beaver, Christy Barker of Cherokee Village, Marvin Huddle of Salem, Aaron Hall of Beaver, McKenzie Hardin of Beaver, and Taylor Hardin of Beaver; six great-grandchildren -- Tyler, Damion, Logan, Paige, Ethan and Evan; and a sister, Hazel Angotti of Mason City, Ill.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands -- Leonard Hardin and Elmer Coats; two brothers -- Robert and Jerry Major; and a great-granddaughter, Nina Franklin.
