Tuesday, March 5, 2002

THAYER -- Seven Thayer Elementary School music students were selected and participated in the South Central Missouri Elementary Honor Choir at Evangel University on Feb. 2.Thayer Elementary Choir Director Patti Kelly said Honor Choir is a unique opportunity for the students to sing with others who share the same enthusiasm for vocal music. "There were 350 students from 37 schools representing some of the finest voices from throughout the state," she said.

"They rehearsed and memorized eight songs in their local school and then combined with other students for a day-long clinic and rehearsal in preparation for the concert that same evening."

Kelly said the guest conductor for the choir was Charles Facer from Springfield.

He is currently assistant professor at SMSU and serves as director of vocal music for the Greenwood Laboratory School.

Six Alton Elementary School students and their instructor traveled with the Thayer Honor Choir students to to the clinic and everyone reported a good time.
