Phyllis and Tom Thompson will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary April 6 in Memphis with a party hosted by their four children and their families. It will include visiting several points of interest in Memphis, culminating with an overnight stay at the Peabody Hotel.Fifty years ago, Phyllis and Tom were married in the West Congregational Church in Akron, Ohio, where both spent their childhood. They were high school sweethearts and were wed just before Tom received his degree from the University of Akron. The wedding was attended by both families and many of their high school and college friends.They started their married life in Mobile, Ala., serving with the U.S. Air Force. Upon completion of their military duty they started a long career in the rubber industry, living in five different states. Along the way they were gifted with three sons and a daughter, seven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.After retiring from the rubber industry in 1989, Tom joined Edward Jones Investments and he and Phyllis moved to Cherokee Village. Tom retired last spring.Phyllis and Tom both enjoy living in the Village and look forward to many more years there.
