Thayer FFA wins top trophy at fair

THAYER -- Five members of the Thayer FFA were busy at the Heart of the Ozarks District Fair last summer. They exhibited record books, cattle and wood projects. They came home with the following awards: Kylee McAlmond exhibited the grand champion record Book and also made a 14-foot sign to hang in the cattle barn which took a blue ribbon. Luke Fraley came out in the supreme championship #5 spot with his steer.

The group showed their cattle in different shows on three days.

In the live carcass division the students were awarded three blue ribbons and two red ribbons. Luke Fraley's steer tied for reserve champion.

In the rate of gain competition Fraley's steer was again reserve grand champion. The other FFA members took two blue ribbons and two red ribbons.

Garrett Poulette won grand champion senior showman; Kylee McAlmond placed fourth in intermediate showmanship; Luke Fraley placed second in senior showmanship.

The second day of the fair was the Open Angus Association Show. McAlmond showed her angus heifer placing fourth in showmanship and was awarded reserve champion Heifer. The third day of the fair was the Ozark Junior Angus Show. Garrett Poulette had the reserve champion crossbred steer and McAlmond won reserve champion purebred steer.

In the Showmanship class of 21, Thayer FFA members placed as following in the intermediate division: Dasha Fraley, fourth; Jacob Poulette, 14th; Tyanna McAlmond, 15th; Garrett McAlmond, 16th; Aaron Roberts, 19th. In the senior division Garrett Poulette placed second and Luke Fraley placed third.

During the final day of the fair Kylee McAlmond was awarded the highest award of top showman.

At the end of the fair, the steers were auctioned off to the highest bidder. The FFA members attending the fair said they thank all of the buyers and a special thanks to Marlise and Randy McAlmond and Dana Fraley for all their help.
