James Thurl Dillard, of Oxford, Ark., son of the late James Arlin Dillard and Sarah Francis Blevins Dillard, was born March 31, 1924, in Oxford, Ark. He died Oct. 23, 2003, in Salem, Ark., at the age of 79 years.
He married Rheta Moss Jan. 8, 1955, in Melbourne, Ark. and to this union four children were born. He was corporal in the United States Army and served in World War II.
He spent his working years as a farmer and a carpenter. He was a loving husband and father.
Survivors include his wife, Rheta Moss Dillard of the home; two sons and one daughter-in-law -- James Michael and Kathy Dillard of Midway, Ark., and Wendell Dillard of Cabot, Ark.; two daughters and two sons-in-law -- Donna and Steve Stevenson of Oxford and Sarah and David Cloninger of England, Ark.; a sister, Zada Cooper of Senath, Mo.; five grandchildren --Deanna Skala, Mark Stevenson, Brett Stevenson, Elizabeth and Adam Cloninger; and four great-grandchildren -- Christopher Skala, Megan Skala,Justice Didway, Cole Stevenson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers -- Eddie and Vinos Dillard and a sister -- Archie Floyed.
The funeral was Oct. 26 at the Roman and Billy Howard Memorial Chapel with Bobby Coleman officiating. Interment was in the Oxford Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of Eddie's Family Funeral Home of Melbourne.Pallbearers were Mark Stevenson, Brett Stevenson, Eric Burgess, Norman Brown, Greg Moss and Mike Warden.
Honorary pallbearers were Jerry Yancey, Bill Shepherd, J.H. Ward, Leo Chamberlain, Norman Wray, Lee Williams, Lonnie Cooper Herb Moss and Fisher Moss.
