Vera Marissa Crow, of Viola, Ark., daughter of William "Bill" Vernon and Roxanne Jones Crow was born March 29, 1982, in Salem, Ark. She died from injuries sustained in an automobile accident Oct. 20, 2003, at Hardy, Ark., at the age of 21 years.

Marissa graduated from Viola High School, was valedictorian of her class, and was attending Williams Baptist College at Walnut Ridge, Ark., where she was an English major.

Marissa was part of the International English Academic and Honor Society. She was a member of the Alpha Psi Omega (Honors Club for Theater) and Sigma Tau Delta (Honors Club for English).

Marissa was a member of Unity Baptist Fellowship Church a Pocahontas, Ark.

Survivors include her parents -- Bill and Roxanne Crow of Viola; a brother, Morgan Crow of Viola; two sisters -- Makenzie Crow of Viola and Maranda Pingel and husband, Charles of Walnut Ridge; a nephew, Ethan Pingel of Walnut Ridge; her fiance`, Chad DeShaw of Excelsior Springs, Mo.; maternal grandfather, Leon Jones of Salem; paternal grandparents -- Vernon and Joyce Crow of Viola; parents of Chad -- Denny and Linda DeShaw of Pocahontas, Ark.; sister of Chad, Tammy Karow and husband, John of Pocahontas; aunts and uncles -- Desi and Angela Jones of Mountain Home, Dan and Lou Crow of Camp, Ark., and Kenny and Terri Crow of Salem; cousins -- Raleigh and Madison Jones, Jason, Brandon and Cameron Crow, Danielle Scheuerman and Brian and Steven Crow.She was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Fay Jones, and an uncle, Rocky Leon Jones.

The funeral was Oct. 23 at Viola First Baptist Church with Robert Lash, John Hodges and Don Strait officiating. Interment was in Mt. Calm Cemetery at Viola with arrangements under the direction of Barker Funeral Home of Salem.

Active pallbearers were Justin Luther, Clay Divelbiss, Jonathan Magee, Nathan Miller, Bryce Broddie and Morgan Woodard.

Honorary pallbearers were Coy Stone, Jackie Estes, Bob Messer, Jerry Taylor, Elwin Wray, Larry Duncan, Dale Talburt, Jim Billinger, and Mike Thompson.
