Leslie Hugh Lawyer, of Salem, Ark., son of the late Fredrick Hugh and Ruth White Lawyer, was born Aug. 29, 1925, in Salem, Ark. He died Nov. 21, 2003, at Fulton County Hospital in Salem at the age of 78 years.
He married Mary Lou Young June 2, 1950, at Salem. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was self-employed as a farmer and was a Baptist.
Survivors include his sons -- Larry David Lawyer of Salem, Leslie W. Lawyer and wife, Florence, of Liberty, Mo., Louie F. Lawyer of Kansas City, Kan., and Lee O. Lawyer and wife, Kathy, of Horseshoe Bend; one brother, Melvin W. Lawyer of Oregon; three sisters -- Veda Thrasher of Salem, Velma Maxwell of Brockwell and Eva Lee Wilson of Horseshoe Bend; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lou on July 29, 2003; one son, Thomas H. Lawyer; one sister, Carol Ruggiere; and his father and mother.
A graveside service was Nov. 26 at Fairview Cemetery with Warren Newman officiating. Burial followed with arrangements by Cox-Blevins Funeral Home of Salem.
